Brandy Dawn Burgess is a Doctor of Nursing Practice and board-certified Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist with prescriptive authority, based in Oklahoma. She holds a DNP and MSN in Clinical Nurse Specialist practice, with a specialization in adult critical care across the lifespan, from the Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences.
Brandy's career spans direct patient care, academic education, and professional leadership. Since 2018, she has practiced in advanced cardiopulmonary, pulmonary hypertension and advanced pulmonary disease. She also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the OU College of Nursing, where she teaches advanced practice and undergraduate nursing students, develops curricula, and mentors graduate research and scholarship. Earlier roles include critical care, cardiac, pulmonary practice, sleep medicine, Long-Term Acute Care Hospital, Hospitalist Group, and gerontology.
She is a Nationally Certified in Adult-Gerontology from wellness to acute care. Her scholarship includes peer-reviewed publications and national and state presentations on heart failure readmission reduction, APRN reimbursement, and clinical nurse specialist practice outcomes. Brandy currently serves on the Oklahoma Board of Nursing representing APRN CNS education and is Immediate Past President of the Oklahoma Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, where she led statewide policy, continuing education, and legislative advocacy efforts, including support for Oklahoma's APRN independent practice legislation (HB 2298).
